About Vase Shelf

In March 2023, I ordered a sunflower-and-daisy mix for my mother's seventieth birthday. What arrived was lilies. My mother is allergic to lilies. She spent the morning sneezing in her kitchen while the arrangement sat on the counter, and I spent it on hold with customer service. That was the third substitution in a row from that service. I started a spreadsheet.

Vase Shelf is where that spreadsheet became something more structured. The site tracks which online flower delivery services deliver what they show in the listing photo, which ones substitute species without notice, which ones downgrade the vase and call it "equal or greater value," and which ones actually hold the delivery window they advertise. Every service covered here was ordered from on a real occasion, paid for out of pocket: birthdays, sympathy deliveries, baby showers, and apology arrangements sent to recipients across the Midwest and East Coast. Each delivery gets photographed next to the original listing. No comp orders, no press samples.

I'm a freelance HR consultant based in Pittsburgh. More on my background is on the author page.

Disclosure: most flower delivery links here are affiliate links. If you order through one, I earn a commission, and your price stays the same as going direct. Every service reviewed was paid for out of pocket. For how the editorial side handles that arrangement, see the editorial policy.
